Cary Academy is an independent, coed, college preparatory day school for students in grades 6-12. Committed to discovery, innovation, collaboration and excellence, the school is located on a 66-acre campus in the heart of the dynamic Research Triangle. Cary Academy began its inaugural year in August, 1997, with 250 students in grades 6-10. Having graduated its eighth senior class last June, the Academy now enrolls 711 students. Cary Academy believes strongly in educating the whole child, and has a particular goal to create a learning environment that will serve as a model for all schools in the use of technology to support student and teacher learning, skill development, and creativity. All faculty and students in grades 6-12 teach and learn using tablet computers.

  Cary Academy Multimedia Specialist

The Multimedia Specialist is responsible for promoting, integrating and teaching the use of video and multimedia technologies at Cary Academy, as well as for managing the audio and video production equipment and facilities for the school.

Responsibilities       

  • Teaches classes in video and multimedia production
  • Facilitates approved internal event requests for TV broadcasting, recording of school events, and web casting during and outside of school hours
  • Works with the Instructional Technology Director to establish priorities and develop long-range goals and objectives for the use of multimedia technologies in the classroom.
  • Provides ongoing training to faculty and staff in the use of multimedia production tools
  • Provides active support, guidance, and encouragement for faculty and students who have creative ideas for uses of technology to enhance their teaching and learning.
  • Performs diagnosis of hardware and software problems with multimedia production equipment.
  • Evaluates hardware and software needs on an ongoing basis.  Provides guidance in purchasing.
  • Manages the video production studio.
  • Supervises a Level IV extracurricular activity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: The Multimedia Specialist will report to the Instructional Technology Director and the Dean of Faculty.

Indirectly Supervises: N/A

Relationships

Internal: All Cary Academy faculty and students

External: Cary Academy Parents

Job Requirements
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

·       Thorough knowledge of multimedia technology, multimedia authoring tools, and
     use of the Internet and Intranet to deliver information.

·     
 Thorough aesthetic and technical knowledge of multimedia production
·       
Knowledge of video and post-production
·
   
Extensive video and audio editing experience
·
   
Knowledge of non-linear video editing equipment
·
   
Ability to teach students, faculty and staff in the use of the multimedia
     production equipment and facilities including sound boards, light boards, audio
     distribution networks, etc.

·
   
Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and planning skills.

Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher - with training and experience in media production, computer science, education, or instructional technology.

Experience: Three years of experience in multimedia production; direct or related experience in an academic institution a plus.

Equivalency: Directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience may be considered in place of the above requirements.

Starting Date: July 28th, 2008  (Commences five days of orientation and training for new faculty before joining returning faculty for an additional 7 days prior to the commencement of classes on August 13.)
