Upper School

The Upper School program at Cary Academy is characterized by dedicated teachers and motivated students working together in a highly interactive and collaborative learning environment that inspires inquiry and an enduring love of learning. Our curriculum features a rich array of core courses and electives, with several Advanced options available to students in grades 11 and 12. Faculty members constantly challenge students to relate their learning to multiple disciplines and to the world in which they live.

The Upper School advisory program is the foundation of support for our students, with faculty advisors playing a key role in helping them make the transition from adolescence to young adulthood. Central to the advisory program are the core values of respect, integrity and compassion, which students and adults alike are committed to uphold as members of our learning community.

Upper School students are encouraged to be actively involved in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities beyond the classroom, while at the same time learning the importance of balancing a variety of endeavors and interests. The world language program includes an exchange in the sophomore year in which students both host and visit students from our sister schools in Europe, Latin America and China. An extensive fine and performing arts program further broadens students' horizons and lets them discover new talents. In addition, Cary Academy offers a robust athletics program and a broad range of clubs. Leadership and service opportunities also abound.
