Our athletics program continued to shine, earning fourth place in the prestigious Wells Fargo Cup for 2015-2016, a state-wide competition among the 23 biggest private schools in North Carolina. This award is based on performance at state tournaments, and over the last 12 months we've had state champions in boys' and girls' cross country and boys' tennis; and we've had state runners-up in girls' swimming, girls' soccer, girls' tennis, and boys' and girls' track.Academics
The US Science Olympiad team took 18 students to the state tournament and seven of our teams placed in the top 10 (of 45 participating schools). CA was one of only a handful of schools invited to participate in the USA Young Physics Tournament.
Our US varsity robotics team finished the season in 8th place among NC teams. At the end of 2016, the MS robotics team competed in the state tournament, winning teamwork and inspiration awards.
Measuring our health
As an institution, Cary Academy continues to thrive. We measure the health of the organization in several ways:
Interest in what we offer. Our applications remain at the top-end of recent averages, and last year 86% of students offered a place at the school enrolled, the highest among our peer group of outstanding schools in the Triangle and Charlotte. Our attrition rate last year was a remarkably small 3%.
Inclusive in our environment. Overall, students of color make up 35% of our enrollment and faculty of color are at 22%, placing us at the top in our peer school benchmark group in both categories.
As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, the school has been working hard on goals outlined in our latest strategic plan. We believe these goals not only honor the school's founding vision but also will set us on a strong path for the next 20 years. Our vision:
Cary Academy will create learning opportunities that are flexible, personalized and relevant. We will cultivate self-directed and bold life-long learners who make meaningful contributions to the world.
