Last week’s Middle School Community Day was a joyful celebration of learning, service, and connection.  

Sixth graders explored food accessibility firsthand, considering cost, value, nutrition, and availability while shopping on a budget for Backpack Buddies. By navigating different stores and real-world limitations, they gained insight into the challenges of making choices when resources are limited, and access is unequal. 

Seventh graders kicked off African Voices Day with a scavenger hunt tied to key themes from their Africa unit, then dove into interactive sessions led by special guests—including parents and Upper School students—who shared insights on African countries, cultures, languages, and traditions. Highlights included traditional drumming and dance, which were instant hits. 

Eighth graders focused on advocacy and changemaking, learning from professionals across law, science, government, journalism, education, and non-profits about how personal values shape action and problem-solving. Through these teach-ins, students considered how their own interests, strengths, and values can guide them to make a difference in their communities.
