On Wednesday, Cary Academy, in partnership with Durham Academy, proudly welcomed acclaimed scholar Dr. Eddie Glaude, Jr. as part of its Upper School Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Observance. In the keynote address “Lessons from the Later Dr. King,” Dr. Glaude offered a complex and nuanced representation of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and work, ultimately issuing a call to action for us all to strive towards creating the society that King envisioned.

This fall, the Spector Family Fund was created at Cary Academy. Established in memory of Grey Spector (‘16), and in honor of the entire Spector family’s impact on CA, the Spector Family Fund is a merit-based award that will be given annually to an Upper School student who exemplifies Grey’s spirit—his individuality and unwavering commitment to the pursuit of passions. The award supports the recipient’s tuition for a year. Students are encouraged to apply annually, and faculty members may also nominate students for recognition.

Upper School history teacher Conrad Hall has been recognized as a University of Chicago Outstanding Educator, for leaving an impression that is carried over a learner's lifetime.

For so many reasons, I am continually impressed by CA students. Our students love being at school. Our students are not afraid to think critically, to challenge the process. They are great athletes and musicians. Exceptional innovators and bold, creative thinkers. Risk takers and global changemakers. The list goes on and on.

Mary Esposito ’21, Mila Patel ’21, and Sonia Shah ’22 took the top spot in the Young Founders Institute 2020 Fall Makethon, this past weekend, publicly launching Blōra Beauty (formerly Nexkap) and generating $50 in sales in just a few hours.

Many of us would be forgiven for feeling that Hurricane Florence, which roared through North Carolina two years ago this month, was in the far distant past -- especially during a pandemic. Anna Newman '21 would not let current events distract her from helping Ivanhoe, NC, which was devastated by Florence's floodwaters.
