Travis Kimball (’22), the youngest player at 12-years-old playing for his 18-and-under Junior Tennis Team (JTT), played a large part in the team’s recent state victory.
After winning its division, the team participated in states at Cary Tennis Park. The team went it ranked seventh of eight teams but took home the first-place blue ribbon medal.
Kimball won all of his tournament singles matches including the last one, 6-1, which sealed the deal for first place.

During Memorial Day Weekend, three Cary Academy seniors: Jack Maxfield, Caleb Norfleet and Pranay Tankala cut their graduation festivities short to participate in the CACS-sponsored American Computer Science League (ACSL) All-Star Programming Contest.
The students earned a perfect score during the intensely challenging programming round, solving four programs in the allotted three hours, while using only one computer and having to call upon all of their collaborative and innovative skills. On the written contest, which is renowned to be extremely detail-oriented and computationally intensive, the students earned a combined score of 32/36 points.
Competing against top programming teams from the U.S., Canada, China, Croatia and Romania, the Cary Academy team repeated as first-place winners of its division.
In addition to winning individual and team plaques, the students were awarded two laptop computers, a Kindle Fire tablet and a Kindle Paperwhite.

The NCISAA Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association has announced its outstanding athletes and coaches for the 2017 track and field season.
Sarah Bodmer (’17) has been named the 3A Female Athlete of the Year.
She will be receiving a letter of recognition and a plaque to commemorate the award.

Sarah Godwin (’16) is a member and competitor on the Boston University Intercollegiate Figure Skating Team that recently won the U.S. Figure Skating Intercollegiate National Championship.
The best three teams from each section — East, Midwest and West — meet annually to compete for the national championship. Godwin skated in the Junior Championship Ladies division and earned points for her team at each competition this year.
She is a rising sophomore at Boston University.

Ethan Watts (’18) and his CASL Red 00 team won the U17 Division of the US Youth Soccer State Cup this past weekend In Winston-Salem.
In Saturday’s semifinal, Watts scored the only goal in a 1-0 double overtime victory. On Sunday, the team posted a 3-1 win in the final.
CASL 00 Red now moves on to the Region III Championships in June.

This past weekend, the CA girls track and field team won its third straight TISAC championship, 176-161, over Ravenscroft. Sarah Bodmer was named Most Outstanding Athlete of the meet.
The CA boys had their two-year TISAC championship streak ended in a tight battle with DA, finishing runner-up, 114-118.
Both teams will get a re-match next week at the NCISAA state championship in Rock Hill, SC.

Three Middle School teams have won their CAMSC championships.
On May 9, both the girls and boys Middle School track and field teams won the first CAMS Conference meet.
And on May 11, the boys tennis team repeated as CAMSC champs.
