Employee Conduct
To ensure orderly operations and to provide a supportive, professional workplace, Cary Academy expects you to follow rules of conduct that will protect the interests and safety of all employees, students, vendors, and visitors. You are expected to be a positive reflection of the School by being courteous to co-workers, students, vendors, and visitors and by complying with the School’s policies and practices and with federal, state, and local laws. For all employees, professional conduct should be a matter of course.
While it is not possible to list all forms of behavior that are considered unacceptable in the workplace, the following are examples of violations that may result in suspension without pay and/or other disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment:
- Physical, verbal, or emotional abuse of a child
- Endangering the safety of a child
- Inappropriate conduct, including inappropriate friendships, relationships, and socialization with students of the School
- Conduct, including but not limited to speech that harms or threatens harm to others or that is abusive or offensive
- Fighting or threatening violence in the workplace
- Violation of safety or health rules
- Violation of School policies regarding sexual or other harassment and discrimination
- Working under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs
- Possession, distribution, sale, transfer, or use of alcohol or illegal drugs in the workplace, while working or while operating School-owned vehicles or equipment
- Possession of dangerous or unauthorized materials, such as explosives or firearms, in the workplace
- Failure to report an arrest
- Failure to maintain or falsification/unauthorized destruction of personnel, business, academic, or operations records or documentation
- Theft, damage, or inappropriate removal or possession of School property or the property of co-workers, students, or visitors
- Unauthorized use of School-owned property or resources
- Violation of School policies safeguarding sensitive information
- Excessive absenteeism, tardiness, abuse of meal/break periods, or any unauthorized absence
- Insubordination
- Boisterous or disruptive activity in the workplace
- Unsatisfactory job performance or conduct
- Unethical, dishonest, or criminal conduct
If your performance, work habits, conduct, or demeanor becomes unsatisfactory, as determined by the School in its sole discretion, based on violations of this or of any other School policies or rules, you may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
