Our Values
Community Values
Where our mission is all about what we do, our values are about how we go about doing it. Our values serve as a compass for how we interact with each other, how we make decisions, and how we approach solutions to challenges or opportunities. There aren’t many of them, but they are vitally important to life at Cary Academy. What makes our values even more meaningful? They were chosen by our students and then adopted by the entire community. They are:
- Respect
- Integrity
- Compassion
Universal Declaration
Our universal declaration stands as a constant affirmation of our values—a clear and unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and compassion in all circumstances.
Cary Academy unequivocally condemns bigotry, hate, and violence in all their forms—whether overt or subtle, systemic or individual.
We reject all systems of oppression, including but not limited to racism, sexism, misogyny, antisemitism, Islamophobia, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and other forces that perpetuate division and inequity. Rooted in respect, integrity, and compassion, our community stands for the dignity, safety, and equitable treatment of all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, political affiliation, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, nationality, or ability.
In times of crisis, whether international or domestic, we are committed to being a source of empathy, support, and understanding for our community. We listen deeply to those most affected, create safe spaces for students to express themselves, and foster meaningful dialogue. We champion student-led efforts to raise awareness or give voice and provide education that equips our community with the tools, facts, and contexts needed for critical, nuanced thinking around complex and difficult issues.
Cary Academy is steadfast in its commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive environment that celebrates diversity, rejects discrimination, and prioritizes mental health. As educators, we are committed to nurturing our students into healthy, thoughtful, and engaged citizens who are well-equipped to critically engage with challenges, combat prejudice, and advance the positive changes they would like to see in the world.
This commitment is reflected in our continuous efforts to educate, listen, and grow— together, building a community that reflects our highest values.
