Employment Classifications
All employees of Cary Academy have several classifications that are utilized for payroll, benefit eligibility and other personnel purposes; they are described in further detail below. This information is included in your position description and provided to you at your time of hire or at the time you have a change in your position.
Payroll Classification
Cary Academy classifies each employee as exempt or non-exempt based on the following definitions:
Exempt Employee
An exempt employee generally works in an executive, administrative or professional capacity that requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment and/or requires decision-making regarding personnel as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act. Exempt employees are not eligible for overtime pay.
Non-exempt Employee
A non-exempt employee is an employee who does not fit into an exempt employee category. Non-exempt employees are eligible for overtime pay for all hours worked over forty (40) hours in a work week (Saturday through Friday).
Cary Academy will inform you upon hire or transfer whether you are considered an exempt or non-exempt employee and whether you are eligible to receive overtime pay. For more information, please refer to Cary Academy’s Overtime Policy.
